How To Clean Sandalwood Combs
Congratulations! Because if you are reading this, then in all probability you already own a wooden comb. And even more, you understand the fact that healthy hair begins with a clear hair comb. Like any other hair combs, wooden combs to require cleaning so that you don't transfer the grease or germs back into your hair. However, wood doesn't like water, therefore, one has to be careful while cleaning wooden combs.
Here are a few tips which would help you in cleaning wooden comb:
1. Remember that wood doesn’t react well to water, and may swell and eventually splinter if submerged in water for a longer period of time and hence do not leave your wooden comb submerged in water for more than 3 minutes.
2. The best way to clean a wooden comb is to soak it in warm water mixed with mild soap or detergent for 2 to 3 minutes. Gently wipe any dirt or debris from the comb, running a small piece of cloth through each tine. If there are stubborn residue left even after wiping, scrub the comb gently with an old toothbrush. Do not forget to wipe the comb with a piece of cloth to completely remove/dry water. Once cleaned to your satisfaction, apply very little oil (hair oil you use) to both sides of the comb and rub gently with your fingers so that the oil is evenly distributed all over.
3. Another way to clean your wooden comb is to use oil for cleaning. Dip a clean piece of cloth in any natural oil (such as olive, jojoba or coconut oil) and then rub this all over your wooden comb. Slowly remove dirt or debris from the comb running the cloth through each tine. In case there is stubborn residue left, scrub the comb gently with an old toothbrush. Wipe again with a piece of cloth and you may even lay the clean wooden comb on the towel to soak up the oil overnight.
4. If you use a detangling comb while you shampoo your hair, then give the comb a wash as well. Afterward, wipe the comb with a cloth and apply a little oil all over the comb once water gets wiped.
It is important to use water sparingly during the cleaning of wooden comb to avoid wood damage. Always wipe off the water after cleaning and apply little oil all over your wooden comb. Be gentle and do not scrub too hard!
